Notable nights

Venus and Jupiter side by side in 2032

On the morning of 7 February 2032 the two brightest planets will stand a third of a degree apart: less than the width of the full Moon.

Over Rome they rise together at about 05:46 and stand 9° above the south-eastern horizon at 06:47, in the blue before sunrise. A thin Moon, 22% lit, will shine higher, to their right.

They are close only as seen from here: Venus will be 211 million kilometres away, Jupiter 903 million, more than four times as far. In the picture, where the planets are drawn 250 times larger than they look, Venus stands in front of Jupiter.
