The red, eclipsed Moon low in the south-west over Lisbon before dawn, in front of the bright star clouds of the Milky Way.

Notable nights

The long blood moon of June 2029

Before dawn on 26 June 2029 the full Moon will pass almost through the middle of the shadow of the Earth. It will stay red for an hour and 42 minutes, a minute less than the blood moon of July 2018, the longest of this century.

Over Lisbon the Moon will be wholly in the shadow from 03:31 to 05:13. At 04:22, the middle of the eclipse, it will stand 16° above the south-western horizon, in front of the star clouds towards the centre of our galaxy.

The eclipse ends at 06:12, a minute before sunrise, and the Moon sets ten minutes later.
