The red, eclipsed Moon high in the south over Warsaw, above Orion and the winter stars.

Notable nights

The blood moon of December 2029

On the night of 20 December 2029, one of the longest of the year, the full Moon will pass through the shadow of the Earth.

Over Warsaw it will be wholly in the shadow from 23:14:40 until 00:09:20. At 23:42, the middle of the eclipse, it will stand 60° up in the south, right above Orion: Betelgeuse shines 15° below it.

A full Moon stands this high only around midwinter, when it is opposite the low Sun. Saturn will shine lower in the south-west.
